A week after the surpring exit of Maersk's COO, Soren Toft; Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) confimred the joining of Toft as the new CEO. He will look after the containers and logistics operations.
“MSC is confident that this appointment will bring significant value to its cargo businesses, building on the company’s existing strengths and boosting its development plans even further,” the company said in a statement.
Toft is joining the family owned company to assist the Aponte family and will be reporting directly to Diego Aponte, group president, and Gianluigi Aponte, founder and group chairman. This is seen as a pivotal move by the family to appoint an outside professional to look after the container and logistics businness.
After being a very intrinsic part and spending 25 years with Maersk,Toft joins MSC which is both MSC’s partner in the 2M alliance and its biggest rival in container shipping. He will be relocated to Geneva for this new appointed position, dates for which have not yet been confirmed.
