World cup fans will be enthralled as Qatar has signed an agreement with MSC Cruises to charter two ships to accommodate fans during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
The two ships, with a combined capacity of nearly 4,000 cabins will act as floating hotels during the tournament. They will be berthed at Doha Port. These vessels are LNG fuelled, which is the most environment friendly fuel currently available in the maritime shipping industry. This in turn shall keep the fuel emissions at bay, while the ships are berthed. Apart from the floating hotels, the accomodation options varies to apartments, hotels and fan villages.
"We are pleased to collaborate with MSC Cruises to deliver this unique accommodation option for fans in 2022," Hassan al-Thawadi, secretary-general for the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, said.
"We are sure fans from all over the world will be excited at the prospect of staying on board a cruise ship, with a fabulous view of West Bay, and fast access to all the stadiums and fan zones," he added.
The floating hotels will be connected to Qatar's transport infrastructure by shuttle busses. This will enable access to the country's first ever metro service; Doha metro, stadiums and other attractions.
