PM Modi heads on a 3-day Thailand visit: Epilogue to the RCEP deal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a visit to Thailand to attend the ASEAN-India, East Asia and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Summits (RCEP) in order to strengthen the regional cooperation in core areas like maritime security, trade and connectivity. This is Prime Minister Modi’s Seventh ASEAN –India Summit and sixth East Asia Summit. These ASEAN- related summits are integral events of the diplomatic calendar.

The leaders on this platform will exchange views on progressing the internal sustainable agenda in line with the theme chosen by Thailand-“Advancing Partnerships for Sustainability’. ‘The theme of this is chosen by Thailand, said Ministry of External Affairs in a press release.

The project is being launched to cater for the increased demand in the country for handling liquid cargoes like POL, LPG, edible oil, molasses and chemicals. The construction of this jetty at JNPT will help increase berthing space for ships carrying liquid cargo.

The initiative proposed is set to have a budget of around Rs. 300 crores. This proposition is by far the largest human resource initiative by India for ASEAN member countries. The PM will not only address the Indian community living in the country but also release the commemorative coin on the occasion of the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev as well as release of a Thai translation of a Tamil classic ‘Tirukkural’.
